What’s In My Bag: A Pair Of Lenses For Capturing “I Do”

Jarrah Boreman (@jarrahmariephotography) has been a full time photographer for over a decade. She specializes in wedding photography in Colorado and Central Texas. Boreman has fallen in love with the mountain backdrop of Colorado and the warmth and green hill country of Central Texas. She has also recently added ceremony video coverage to her wedding photography packages. Boreman’s goal with her work is timeless: she wants couples to be able to look back on their photos and film from their wedding day and remember all the sweet moments. We took a look in her camera bag to see the gear that helps her capture the magical moments.

Jarrah Boreman's gear for wedding photography

How a wedding photographer relies on her Sony Alpha camera, a G Master zoom and a prime to capture wedding day photo and video.

Camera

Sony Alpha 7R IV: I love, love, love shooting on the Sony Alpha 7R IV, it is my main camera body. The low-light capabilities are a necessity for wedding reception dance floors. I also love that this camera is super hybrid and is also an excellent piece of equipment for videography and it's able to shoot in 4K! The sharp autofocus ensures that I do not miss a once-in-a-lifetime moment at a wedding! It is also super easy to change up the settings in the moment, like if you go from a dark church ceremony to a bright outdoor recession.

Lenses

Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master: I typically use this lens most of a typical wedding day. It is super versatile and my favorite lens. It allows me to zoom on tight shots (like a groom's reaction when he first sees his bride at the end of the aisle) and wider shots (like a group of family members). The quality of this lens is very high, the f/2.8 creates beautiful bokeh and the auto focus works fast and accurately.

Sony 50mm f/1.8: I recently added this lens to my kit. It is extremely light, I typically use it when I'm getting more creative and fun shots on the dance floor. The low-light autofocus never fails. I also love how artistic the f/1.8 looks and gives the wedding gallery some super unique images.

Accessories

Brevite Backpack: Small but still keeps my gear secure.

Sony ECM-G1 Ultracompact Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone: This mic is so small that is basically take up no space in my kit. I don't need any extra cords or batteries, it connects right to the hot shoe. I love to use it to capture couples sharing their vows.

Notebook & Pen: I keep a hardcopy of my timeline and shot list.

Extra Sony Battery & Charger: Just in case!  Wedding days can be long!

Mag-Mod Lighting Diffuser Set: I love using these to help create beautiful dance floor lighting.

Business Cards: I love to be able to network with other wedding professionals!

Extra Memory Cards: A typical wedding day requires a lot of data storage space!

Newer Collapsible Light Stand: I like a more compact lightstand, it's so easy to travel with!

Godox Flashes: I love to be able to freeze the motion on the dance floor and these never fail!
