Instagram Follow Friday – Bright Lights & Big Cities

This week we’re featuring a group of Sony photographers capturing the bright lights of big cities. Capturing the seductive colors and contrasts of a nighttime cityscape isn’t the easiest thing to do photographically and these creators are taking advantage of the low-light capabilities and image quality of their Sony Alpha cameras and lenses to push boundaries and create new perspectives. Check out their work and give them a follow. Tag your own Sony photos on Instagram with #BeAlpha for the chance to be featured on AlphaUniverse.com, and give @sonyalpha a follow for your daily dose of creative inspiration.

Joe DiGiovanna – @nyc_timescape

Joe is a photographer and filmmaker living in New Jersey, who just so happens to have an awe-inspiring view of the Manhattan skyline from his apartment. And he’s not letting that view go to waste one bit – he’s creating a 30-year timelapse of NYC using the Sony α7S. Each day he posts a timelapse of the city to Instagram and it’s fascinating to see the energy of the city from afar. If you aren’t already following this project, do it now. Just this week he celebrated 1,500 days of continuous timelapse – talk about commitment!

Fei Tang – @phives

Fei Tang, a member of the Sony Alpha Imaging Collective, is known for his slick city shots and capturing architecture from cool perspectives. Click through the epic edits to a single prism shot below that he took in Chicago with the Sony α7R III and 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master. An awesome creative spin on a nighttime cityscape!

Dave Krugman – @dave.krugman

Dave is also a member of the Alpha Collective. His account boasts beautiful photography throughout the streets of New York City. We just love this photo taken in the heart of the Big Apple and how it shows both the beauty and busy you can find in a city. The contrast between the calming sky and the coruscating city lights makes for an incredibly captivating image.

Junya Watanabe – @jungraphy_

Junya is a Sony shooter based in Tokyo. He specializes in urban night photography, so his account has photo after photo of beautiful city lights. He also utilizes long exposure techniques to create light streaks from cars in some of his photography. Make sure you scroll through his account – all of his photos are absolutely mesmerizing. Check out this shot he snagged below of the glowing signs in Shinjuku.

Tristan Zhou – @trystane

Based in both Seattle and Shanghai, Tristan is a Sony photographer bringing us all kinds of new perspectives. Focusing on angles, lines and architecture, his photos are the type that make you want to stare at them for awhile. He captured this shot from a rooftop during a light show in Shanghai, China with the Sony α7R III.
