See How These Photographers Use Perspective, Bokeh & Creative Framing With Floral Foregrounds This Instagram Follow Friday

Springtime is here and flowers are bursting with beautiful hues and textures. While you might be tempted to pull out a macro lens to capture those textures up close (and if you do, you should read Caroline Jensen’s Macro Therapy: Quick Start Guide), you also have the option of going wider to capture more of the surrounding scenery. Colorful blooms can make for great foreground framing to draw interest to something larger like a landscape or cityscape. This week we’re featuring a group of Sony photographers who have incorporated blossoms into their shots. Check out these accounts and give them a follow, then make sure you tag your own Sony shots on Instagram with #BeAlpha for the chance to be featured on AlphaUniverse.com, and give @sonyalpha a follow for your daily dose of creative inspiration.

Don Smith – @don_smith_photography

Don Smith is a Sony Artisan who works as a full-time professional landscape photographer and workshop teacher. If you’re like us and could scroll through breathtaking landscape photos all day, you’re going to want to give Don a follow. His eye for composing a photo in a way that conveys a message to the audience is something only a pro like him could master. He took the photo below with the Sony α7R IV and Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM, and you can read about the making of this image in his blog.

Drew Geraci – @drewgiggity

Drew is another Sony Artisan of Imagery and his account is just plain enjoyable to scroll through. Filled with a colorful mixture of landscapes, cityscapes and more, his photography has a way of grabbing your attention. He took this photo of cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. with the Sony α7R IV and Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM. Give him a follow for more of his vibrant style!

Jude Allen – @jude_allen

Jude is a Los Angeles-based photographer and member of the Sony Alpha Imaging Collective. His Instagram account is filled with moody landscapes, cityscapes and more. The tones and hues in his photography give a sense of wonder and mystery in his photos. We just love the tone of this brilliant shot below that he took in San Francisco – give him a follow for more.

Kathryn Dyer – @kathryn_dyer

As her Instagram bio states, Sony Alpha Imaging Collective member Kathryn is based in California and a cancer survivor and lover of life. She uses natural lighting to capture dreamy shots of nature. Whether it be the sun’s rays shining through the branches of a dense forest or bouncing off the ocean’s waters, her photos combined with her captions provide an inspirational outlook. We can’t get enough of this stunning sunflower shot against a colorful sky.

Junya Watanabe – @jungraphy_

Junya is a Sony shooter based in Tokyo. He specializes in urban night photography, so his account has photo after photo of beautiful city lights. He also utilizes long exposure techniques to create light streaks from cars in some of his photography. Make sure you scroll through his account – all of his photos are absolutely mesmerizing. Check out this shot he snagged below of cherry blossoms framing the Tokyo Skytree with his Sony α7R III and Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master.
