As we make our way through January, many of us are still spending time inside, avoiding the winter chill. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ample photography opportunities! Great art is often created in a photo studio. From interesting lighting to fierce makeup, there are endless possibilities for strong imagery. We’ve gathered a list of outstanding Sony shooters who work in studios to help stir up some inspiration. Spend the cold season perfecting your studio work. Miguel Quiles

Miguel Quiles is a Sony Artisan of Imagery and content creator who is well known for storytelling through portraiture. Quiles is able to create scenes using makeup, lighting, clothing, and expression that allows the viewer to experience a story in their minds by looking at the image. Quiles YouTube channel is chalk full of lessons, tutorials, and advice on making stunning portraits in and out of the studio. Manny Ortiz

Manny Ortiz is a portrait photographer and Youtube content creator currently based in Chicago, Illinois. His passion for photography began when his wife became pregnant with their first child. He is particularly well known for his lighting techniques, and has even created a softbox in collaboration with Westcott. His channel is a spectacular place to improve your lighting and portrait techniques. In the video below, he shares how he makes strong images in the studio with his Sony Alpha 1 and Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master.

Jiggie Alejandrino

Jiggie Alejandrino is a portrait and wedding photographer from the Philippines. On his YouTube Channel he shares lighting tips and tricks, gear reviews, and more. His video below walks through a small studio shoot with a variety of Sony lenses including the Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master, the Sony 50mm f/1.2 G Master, the Sony 85mm f/1.4 G Master, and the Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master. We love that the viewer gets to see the perspective of his camera along with the behind the scene clips. It really allows one to see the effectiveness of his setup.

Chris Turner

Chris Turner is a full time wedding photographer based in Auckland, New Zealand. He shares gear reviews, tutorials and general life vlogs on  his YouTube channel. The video below takes you into the studio with him while he makes portraits of his daughter. He shoots on his Sony Alpha 7R III and then uses a number of lenses. It’s interesting to see the effect each lens has on a shot, when the lighting and everything else remains the same.

Brendon Lee Rogers

Brendon Lee Rogers is a wedding photographer whose philosophy is that the best wedding photos are candid - not posed nor planned. His channel is full of videos documenting his photography work, discussions on gear and other fun topics. The video below shows Rogers shooting a couples session in a studio. What we love most about this is how Rogers interacts with and directs his clients so that even posed shots come out relaxed and natural.
