See How These Photographers Captured The 2022 Total Lunar Eclipse

Using high-resolution cameras like the Sony Alpha 1, Sony Alpha 7 IV and Sony Alpha 9 II combined with lenses like the Sony 400mm f/2.8 G Master, Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master and Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G, these photographers were able to capture last night’s total lunar eclipse. Take a look at what they were able to create below and be sure to follow their Instagram accounts for more eclipse content – there won’t be another total lunar eclipse until 2025!

These Sony shooters had clear enough conditions to photograph last night’s total lunar eclipse – see the images they were able to capture.

Mike Meyers – @mmeyers76

Photographer and Alpha Collective member Mike Meyers went out to capture the different phases of the lunar eclipse, putting together this awesome video post for Instagram. All images were captured using the Sony Alpha 1, Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master and the Sony 1.4X Teleconverter. Follow his account as he plans to post more from the 2022 lunar eclipse!

Stan Moniz – @stanmoniz

If you know photographer and Alpha Collective member Stan Moniz, you know he isn’t afraid to hop in the car and drive to get an awesome image. He avoided the coastline’s clouds and hit the desert where the clouds cleared out for a perfect view. In this video he shares a timelapse of the eclipsetaken with the Sony Alpha 1 and the Sony 400mm f/2.8 G Master. Be sure to follow and stay tuned to his account to see when he posts the final product!

Dave Dicello – @davedicello

Dave Dicello is a Pittsburgh-based photographer who was lucky to get a clear view of this year’s total lunar eclipse, which he captured with his Sony Alpha 1. “Clouds were almost an issue for the total lunar eclipse, but luckily they cleared out just in time for totality, allowing for this incredible view over PPG Place. My favorite part (other than the blood moon) is the reflection of the impending colorful sunrise off of PPG Place.” Follow him on Instagram - he says there are many more shots to come!

Will Godward – @godwardphotography

Photographer Will Godward captured the total lunar eclipse from the South Australian coastline. See the beautiful focus-stacked and exposure blended image he created using the Sony Alpha 7 III and Sony 14mm f/1.8 G Master.

Rodrigo Izquierdo – @reaglephotography

Rodrigo is a nature, concert and studio photographer who was able to capture a view of the eclipse from Phoenix, Arizona. "I got up every 30 minutes last night, in hopes of catching every stage of the moon's changes." Check out the composite he created in his post below using images taken with the Sony Alpha 9 II, Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G and the Sony 2X Teleconverter.

Matt Barnett – @photosby007

Photographer Matt Barnett went out in Philadelphia to capture the lunar eclipse, capturing it in different phases over the city’s Boathouse Row. He created this composite using images captured with the Sony Alpha 1 and Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master.

Rodney Yuen – @rodneyyuen9836

Rodney Yuen is a Canada-based photographer who was able to get a clear view of the lunar eclipse from Ontario. He captured these images of the phenomenon with his Sony Alpha 7R IV and Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master.

Charles Tabangcora – @tabangcora

Photographer Charles Tabangcora was in Fort Mohave, Arizona to capture the eclipse. He used his Sony Alpha 7 III paired with his Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G and he took the image at 1/3-sec. We love the incredible detail in the moon and the pinprick stars that surround it!

Jerome Teo – @jeromememe

Singapore-based cinematographer Jerome Teo captures many epic images of nature, landscapes, and wildlife. So it was natural for him to go out and photograph this scene! Using his Sony Alpha 7 III along with his Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G Master II and Sony 2X Teleconverter he made the series of images below. We love how he used the building in his compositions to add an extra layer of dimension to the shot.

@9rama_studio

This wedding and corporate photographer made an Instagram reel timelapse of the moon. It’s pretty incredible to be able to see the movement in just a matter of seconds. This was captured on the Sony Alpha 7S III and the Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master with the Sony 2X Teleconverter.

Trey Villarreal – @osnapmedia

Trey Villarreal is a Texas-based photographer whose Instagram feed features a mix of portraits, wedding, surfing and skateboarding photography. To photograph the lunar eclipse, Villarreal was out shooting from 2am to 6am. This epic image is perfectly composed, adding a great storytelling element to the shot.

Mike Scrabonia – @mikescrabonia

Mike Scrabonia is the NHL’s social video producer. His Instagram feed is filled with beautiful photographs of many different topics and genres. We love the image he made below along with the caption: “Being a space nerd while living in NYC can be tough, but the city lights couldn’t outshine the Blood Moon.”
