Step Inside Mesmerizing Ice Caves This Instagram Follow Friday

Stepping inside an ice cave can be an otherworldly experience, and this week we’re featuring a group of photographers who are bringing the experience to you through their Instagram accounts. The light inside of caves and caverns like these pushes the camera's dynamic range to its limits and shooting with wide- and ultra-wide angle lenses creates dynamic compositions. In these challenging environments, stunning images can be made. Check out their mesmerizing ice cave shots and give their accounts a follow. If you want the chance for your account to be featured on AlphaUniverse.com, make sure you tag your Sony photography posts with #BeAlpha. Cath Simard – @cathsimard

Cath is a photographer, artist and educator based in Quebec. A member of the Sony Alpha Imaging Collective, she likes to get out in the wilderness and capture its beauty all over the world. She says she’s been obsessed with ice caves lately because of their blue color, minimalistic and modern look, and how they’re difficult to access. She took this ice cave shot in Iceland using her Sony α7R III and Sony 12-24mm f/4 G. Learn more about how she photographs the challenging conditions found in ice caves, and see the gear she packs in her bag for landscapes.

Colby Brown – @colbybrownphotography

Sony Artisan Colby Brown is a photographer, photo educator and author based out of the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. Looking at his Instagram posts, you’ll see Colby captures the rich beauty of all aspects of nature and brings them to life in his photos for his audience. He took this incredible shot inside an ice cave an Iceland and says, “The view from inside an ice cave can be outstanding! The colors, tones and reflective surfaces make it both a challenge and extremely rewarding at the same time.” (Check out Colby's review of the new 20mm f/1.8 G lens.)

Helen Maria – @helenish

Helen is a Sony photographer and local guide in Iceland. Ice caves, mountain peaks, the aurora borealis – her Instagram account is filled with many breathtaking landscapes. She took the gorgeous shot below in Iceland using her Sony α7R III and Sony 12-24mm f/4 G lens.

George Ilstrup – @georgeduluth

George is a landscape photographer based in Duluth, Minnesota. On his account you’ll find insanely beautiful landscapes and astroscapes from every season. He captured these crazy ice formations on Lake Superior using his Sony α7 II and Sony 16-35mm f/4 and says, “An amazing sunrise this morning lit up this ice cave in bright orange and pink colors. This was one of the most beautiful sights I’ve seen, and was well worth the chilly swim in Lake Superior. This was the perfect way to end a long night of shooting the Milky Way in Grand Portage. For perspective, these icicles are about 4 feet tall.”

Jeremy Martin – @live_free_run_far

Jeremy is a travel photographer with a motto of “live free and run far.” His account contains epic landscape and astroscape shots taken with his Sony cameras. With him or others usually included as the subject, his photos have a way of showing the true magnitude of the area he’s traveling. Check out the fun he had in these Alaska ice caves using colorful light and his Sony α6300.
